The new Acer GD235HZ 120Hz LCD Monitor

Acer announced on Tuesday that their GD235HZ model is finally available. The GD235HZ is a 23,5″ diagonal LCD Monitor, capable of 12oHz which makes it perfect for nVIDIA‘s 3D Vision active-shutter glasses.

For those that are unaware of what nVIDIA 3D Vision is…it is probably the best active-shutter system available on the market (it can be bought from resellers for ~$199) that transforms over 350 games in a 3D experience. The glasses use a wireless USB transmitter and can also be used to view stereoscopic images and movies.

The GD235HZ model can be bought for ~$400 this month. It offers a 1920 x 1080 native resolution, with an aspect ratio of 16:9. It also offers a dynamic contrast ratio of 80,000:1 and a native contrast ratio of 1,000:1, a pixel pitch of 0.2715mm, and a response time of 2ms. The LCD also provides one HDMI input (w/HDMI), one DVI input, and one VGA input.

There are a few other monitors available for the nVIDIA 3D Vision system, like the Samsung SyncMaster 2233RZ, which together with the 3D Vision glasses costs ~$560, which is less than the Acer model bought together with the glasses (but probably an Acer GD235HZ + nVIDIA 3D Vision bundle will be sold soon, so the price will drop a bit). Another LCD Monitor would be the ViewSonic FuHzion VX2265wm which can be bought on sites like Amazon for prices ranging from $230 to $270 (depending on applicable discounts), which also makes it a better candidate than the Acer model. There is also a series of HDTV LCDs that are 3D Ready, capable of 120Hz (most from Mitsubishi) and a series of projectors (from Acer, DepthQ and ViewSonic).

There were no reviews of the Acer model at the time we wrote this article, but soon they’ll start to come around so we’ll do a follow-up.
